ShortMax Clone Features for Retention and Repeat Viewing

The costly number in short drama is the price of bringing a viewer back. This build handles that as a product problem, with a check-in streak, quests, referral credits and a campaign desk, all paid in coins you issue and recorded in a ledger. Below is how each part works, who uses it, and where its limits are.

All 46 ShortMax Clone features, by role

The complete list, grouped by the person who uses each feature. Nothing is hidden behind a plan tier: this is what ships in the platform.

Retention tools

14 features
Per-day ladder values
Each of the seven days has its own coin reward, set separately in the console and not as a single flat amount.
Streak behavior
The streak and its reset behavior are operator-controlled, so you decide how forgiving the ladder is.
Once-a-day claim
A check-in can be claimed once per day per viewer, which keeps the ladder predictable.
Daily and weekly quests
Quests list progress and offer a claim button, giving viewers short targets beyond the check-in.
Ad reward tasks
Watching a rewarded task credits coins directly to the wallet under a daily cap that you set.
Midnight cap reset
A scheduled job resets the ad counters at midnight, so caps refresh without staff action.
Watch-time tiers
Coin tiers driven by a playback heartbeat reward minutes actually watched, not only clicks.
Social follow bonuses
Instagram, Facebook and TikTok follow rewards use follow addresses that you enter in the console.
Email and login bonuses
An email bonus and a login bonus are each claimable once and paid in coins.
Referral credit
A reward set by the operator credits the referrer when a new viewer signs up.
Referral history
Viewers can look back at who joined through their code, on both the web app and the store app.
Game Promos
Game Promos sit among the reward types beside referral and social follow rewards in the rewards set.
Coupons and codes
Redeem codes grant coins or VIP days, useful for win-back messages and partnerships.
Promotional expiry
Reward coins expire on a window you set, so retention spending does not pile up as a standing liability.

Campaign desk

10 features
Template library
Campaign templates are stored and reused, so a weekly message needs only a new date.
Audience selection
Each campaign chooses who receives it, which allows win-back and new-title messages to differ.
Scheduling
A campaign can be set for a future time and cancelled before it dispatches.
Minute dispatcher
A job that runs every minute sends due campaigns from inside the API process, with no queue service.
Campaign statistics
After sending, the desk shows delivery figures, which lets you compare times and wording.
Inbox for everyone targeted
An inbox row is written for every targeted viewer, whether or not push is configured.
Device push option
Push delivery runs on your own Firebase project and needs valid device tokens to reach a phone.
Reminder messages
Reminders set on coming soon titles give the desk a natural trigger for a launch message.
Report notifications
Solving a report notifies the reporter, which doubles as a small trust-building message.
In-app inbox screen
The store app and web app both present the inbox, so messages are read in one place.

Viewers

10 features
Two coin balances
Reward coins and purchased coins are separate, with a single total shown and spending drawn from rewards first.
Ledger history
Every earn and spend appears in a history backed by seven typed ledger codes.
Free window and lock
Opening episodes play free, then a lock offers each way forward at the moment of the cliffhanger.
Auto-unlock
A viewer can unlock the rest of a title in one action instead of paying episode by episode.
Reminders
A viewer can set a reminder on a coming soon title and return when it releases.
Discovery shelves
Banner, trending, new release, coming soon and category shelves assemble the front page.
Premium and HD
A Premium plan and VIP plans unlock locked episodes, with HD playback reserved for members.
Five login types
The platform supports five login types, so viewers can enter through the route they find easiest.
Search and My List
Search matches title and plot, and saved series and resume points keep a story within reach.
Subtitles and audio
Subtitle and audio tracks play from stored files, with likes, comments and reports on each episode.

Operators

12 features
Ad reward tab
The first reward tab holds the coin value of rewarded ad tasks and their daily cap.
Daily reward tab
The second tab sets the seven day ladder values day by day.
Login and social tab
The third tab holds login and social bonuses, along with the follow addresses for each network.
Referral tab
The fourth tab sets the amount a referrer is paid.
Coin and VIP plans
Coin packs with bonus coins and VIP plans by validity are created with order history behind each.
Ledger analytics
Coin economy analytics are tied to the typed ledger codes, so reward cost can be separated from purchases.
Monetization views
Paid revenue monitoring, series revenue and top revenue episodes show what the loop is supporting.
User analytics
User counts carry a country filter for comparing how each audience responds to rewards.
Wallet inspection
Open a viewer wallet and history, and adjust a balance when support needs to correct one.
Staff roles
Named roles grant modules and actions, so a growth manager can run campaigns without catalog access.
Report queue
Reports and comment hiding are handled from one queue, with a solved state.
View-only demo role
The demo operator can inspect every screen while the server refuses writes.

One returning viewer across a week

A retention feature is only worth having if it pays back. These steps follow one person over several days and show which part of the platform touches them, what it costs you, and where the console records it.

  1. Day one: a first episode and a first reward

A new viewer signs in, watches the free opening episodes and is offered a login bonus. The coins credited go to the reward balance, not the purchased one, so they carry an expiry window you set. The credit writes a typed ledger entry, which is how you later tell given coins from sold ones.

  2. Day two: the streak starts

The check-in ladder runs for seven days, with a streak that rewards consecutive visits. Opening the app and claiming takes a few seconds, which is the point: the habit is cheap for the viewer and the payout is yours to size. A missed day resets the streak, so the incentive pulls toward daily return.

  3. Day three: a task and a follow bonus

Ad reward tasks are available under a daily cap, and follow bonuses pay coins for following your accounts on Instagram, Facebook and TikTok. An email bonus rewards a viewer who adds an address. These tasks turn small actions into coins and into assets you own, such as followers and contact details.

  4. Day four: a campaign lands in the inbox

A scheduled campaign from the console writes an inbox row for the viewer, with push added only if you have connected Firebase. The message might name a new series or remind them about unspent coins. Delivery statistics show what was sent and delivered, so timing can be judged on evidence.

  5. Day five: the viewer invites a friend

The referral screen shows the viewer personal code and the history of who joined and what each referral paid. When a friend signs up, the referrer is credited an amount you set. Because the reward lands as coins, acquisition costs you inventory and not cash, until a coin is spent on an episode.

  6. Day six: coins meet a cliffhanger

The viewer reaches a lock and chooses what to spend. Reward coins go first, then purchased ones, so the viewer feels the ladder paying off and you consume free inventory before paid. If coins run short, a rewarded ad or a pack is offered right there at the lock.

  7. Day seven: you read what it cost

Coin economy analytics group movements by ledger code, so you can see what was issued for check-ins, tasks and referrals against what was sold and spent. You can then tighten a cap, raise a reward or shift attention to a different lever. Each of those is a setting, not a release.

Retention tools that carry commercial weight

Anyone can add a daily bonus screen. These capabilities are what make retention measurable and adjustable, which is the reason to choose a platform built around them rather than bolting rewards onto a player.

  • A typed ledger behind every coin

Each earn and spend carries one of seven codes, so a coin sold, a coin granted for a check-in and a coin paid for a referral stay distinguishable forever. Without that, you can read a balance but not its origin. With it, you can ask what a returning viewer cost and answer from data.

  • Reward caps you can move

Reward amounts and daily caps are operator settings across four reward tabs, not constants. The first month of real behavior will show that a ladder is too generous or too thin, and you need to adjust it within the week. Because values are data, you can do that without a release.

  • Referral paid in coins

The referral reward is credited to the referrer on signup, in an amount you choose. Viewers become an acquisition channel paid in inventory. The referral history screen makes the loop visible to the viewer, which matters because a reward that seems to vanish stops being shared. Because the amount is a setting, you can start low, read what a referred viewer goes on to spend, and raise it only when the math supports it.

  • Campaign desk without extra services

Templates, audiences, scheduling, cancellation and statistics sit inside the console, and every targeted viewer gets an inbox row. You do not need an email tool or a push provider to begin reaching people. Device push is an optional layer when you connect your own Firebase project. A typical use is a message the evening a new series opens, or a reminder that a reward balance is about to expire, scheduled once and cancelled if plans change.

  • Reward expiry that protects margin

Reward coins expire on a window you set, and spending uses them before purchased coins. Promotions therefore clear off your books instead of piling up as liability, and they never eat into money a viewer paid. Set the window before launch, since changing it later affects balances people already hold.

  • Analytics tied to the ledger

Coin economy analytics sit alongside overview counts, user analytics with a country filter, paid revenue, series revenue and top episodes. The distinctive view is the one that separates coins you issued from coins you sold, because that is the number a retention budget is judged against. If issued coins grow faster than sold coins for several weeks, the ladder is paying for habit that is not turning into revenue, and you can see it before the books close.

  • Five sign-in types

Viewers can arrive through several sign-in methods, which lowers the friction at the first reward, when drop-off is highest. Guests can also collect rewards on a durable identity before registering, so the first coin is available before a form has been filled. The reward moment and the registration moment are separated on purpose: a viewer who already holds coins has a reason to finish signing up, and a reason to come back to spend them.

  • Campaign-ready for several markets

Five interface locales ship, with right-to-left layouts for Hebrew and Arabic. A growth plan often means several languages, and templates can be written per language and sent to the matching audience. The inbox and the wording both follow the viewer locale. That means a campaign about a new series reaches an Arabic-reading audience in Arabic, mirrored correctly, without a second tool or a developer rewriting the message for each audience.

ShortMax, this platform and a from-scratch build, on the growth loop

The first column describes the widely known pattern of reward-heavy drama apps in general, not any company internal mechanics. The other two show what you receive here and what your own team would need to design, test and measure before the loop works.

What the growth features run on

The retention tools are ordinary parts of the same stack as the rest of the platform. They run on the API and the database rather than on outside services, which keeps the loop working even before you connect push or an analytics vendor.

What the growth features run on
Mobile appsA Flutter app on GetX with tabs for reels, quests, referrals, coins with AdMob unlock, and wallet histories.
Consumer web appA Vite and React single page app delivered as a static build, sharing the wallet and catalog with the store app.
Operator consoleA Next.js 14 application with reward tabs, the campaign desk and charts drawn in the browser through ApexCharts.
APINode.js with Express behind nginx and PM2, running separate client and admin routers from one service.
DatabaseMongoDB through Mongoose, holding reward and purchased balances and the typed ledger.
SchedulingCron inside the API dispatches due campaigns every minute and resets ad counters at midnight.
Push messagingOptional Firebase push layered over the inbox, connected with your own project credentials.

What we set up around the growth package

Retention tools attract strong claims, so the details matter. These are the points that tend to surprise operators who expect a full marketing stack inside a drama platform.

  • Attribution tracking

We add deep linking, campaign link tagging and install attribution around the platform. If you buy paid traffic, we set up the tooling to know which source produced which viewer. Referral credit covers invitations only.

  • Web ad tasks are a preview

Live rewarded ads run on the store app through your own AdMob units. On the web, the ad unlock is a timed preview that shows the flow. Plan ad income around the mobile app.

  • Abuse controls are yours to tune

Caps limit how fast a viewer can earn, but a referral or reward scheme invites fake accounts. Watch the ledger for odd patterns, set reward sizes with that in mind, and decide the rules you will enforce before launch.

  • Push needs your Firebase

The inbox works without any external service. Device push appears only after you connect your own Firebase project, and notification permission is up to each viewer.

  • Ranking and personalization

Shelves are composed by editors and trailers are grouped by title. Machine learning recommendation is something we can build as tailored work. In practice this means someone on your team chooses what sits on the first shelf each week, which suits a small catalog and becomes a chore as the library grows.

  • Hardening backlog

Reward schemes are an attractive target, so the security reference items on rate limiting and permission enforcement deserve attention before launch. We agree with you which to close.

Try the live ShortMax Clone demo

The demo is best used for the growth loop: claim a check-in, watch a reward task credit the wallet, follow the referral link, then schedule a campaign from the console. It carries our demo branding and a seed catalog of royalty-free stills, so judge the mechanics rather than the titles.

ShortMax Clone feature FAQs

What happens to a streak if a viewer misses a day?

The streak resets and the viewer starts the ladder again from the first day. That reset is what gives the ladder its pull toward daily visits. The values paid on each day are settings, so you can make the early days generous and the later days more valuable, or the reverse, and watch how return behavior responds.

Can a viewer claim the same bonus twice?

One-off bonuses such as the email bonus and follow bonuses are recorded against the account once claimed, and repeatable rewards such as check-ins and tasks follow their own daily rules and caps. Every credit writes a ledger entry, so repeated claims can be spotted and investigated from the wallet history.

Do social follow bonuses verify the follow?

The bonuses are configured for the accounts you name, and the platform pays out according to your settings. If you need strict verification against each social network, that depends on the network and would be custom integration work. Decide how much trust you place in self-reported actions and size the reward accordingly.

Can I target a campaign at a segment of viewers?

You choose an audience when you send, and templates are written separately so they can be reused. The audience options come with the console, and finer segmentation based on behavior is tailored work we can build. Statistics after sending show what was delivered, so you can compare timing and wording between sends.

Is there a limit on how many campaigns I can run?

Campaigns are stored with their templates and stats, and a job checks every minute for any that are due, so you can keep a calendar of scheduled sends. The practical limit is viewer patience. Too many messages train viewers to ignore the inbox, which defeats the purpose of the channel.

How are rewards separated from revenue in the reports?

By ledger code. Coins sold through packs, coins granted for rewards and coins spent on episodes each carry their own type, so the coin analytics can show them apart. Your accountants can then treat promotional inventory differently from money collected, using the order history and ledger as inputs.

Do edited reward values affect coins already issued?

The console change applies to future credits only. Balances already issued keep their existing expiry window, so adjust the window with care once viewers hold coins. Making a small change, waiting a few days and reading the analytics is a safer habit than large swings.
